Property Week July - Scenarios
Normally this is undertaken in the form of a new strategic plan. In times of stable and slow change we can predict what the future might look like, now, however the increased unpredictability in the world makes static 'grand design' approaches to strategic planning quite inappropriate as a starting point.
To minimise the limitations of traditional strategic planning many organisations are now using the technique of scenario planning. The technique of scenario thinking is not some new fangled idea – Shell have been using it for decades to try and determine what some of the futures might be for the energy sector. Its use in the professions and by professional bodies is, however, much less common.
